'Booty Call' Director Jeffrey Pollack Dies at 54

Jeffrey Ian Pollack, the director of Booty Call and Above the Rim and a producer on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has died. He was 54. Pollack was found on the Greenbelt in Hermosa Beach, Calif., early on the morning of Dec. 23 by an unidentified woman out jogging who called the police,according to the Manhattan Beach Patch. Pollack was already deceased. He was dressed in jogging clothes and carrying an iPod, which was still playing the Eagles when the police arrived.

'Return of the Living Dead' Actor Was 76

Don Calfa, a top-notch character actor who portrayed the embalmer Ernie Kaltenbrunner in the 1985 cult horror comedy The Return of the Living Dead, has died. He was 76. Calfa died Thursday — two days before his birthday — at his home in Yucca Valley, Calif., actor-producer Mark Terry (Live Evil, Brother’s Blood) told The Hollywood Reporter. A native of Brooklyn, Calfa also portrayed Paulie, the hitman who murders Hamptons rich guy Bernie Lomax (Terry Kiser) by giving him a heroin overdose, in the classic comedy Weekend at Bernie’s (1989).

20th TV Nabs Rights to Novel 'We Begin at the End'

Disney’s 20th Television has snagged rights to the hotly anticipated novel We Begin at the End. The studio won rights to Chris Whitaker’s mystery over multiple other outlets. Thomas Kail (Hamilton) and Jennifer Todd (Showtime’s City on a Hill) will develop the book via their Old 320 Sycamore banner; the company has an overall deal at 20th. They’re currently searching for a writer to adapt the novel. “Chris’ spellbinding murder mystery had us enthralled from the very first page, and Tommy and Jen are exactly the right producers to bring it to the screen,” said 20th TV president Karey Burke.
